Hellisøy, 14.3.2015

After more than three months of sitting home, at last, an opportunity for new adventure! Hurraay !

Weather forecast looking extraordinary beautiful, we decided not to waste a nice early spring Saturday. Being limited by my foot, any walks or hikes were out of question... So, what to do..?

Best idea, ask Mr. Google.. so, there I was typing, Bergen, area, sightseeing, car tours... :( And, there it came, the Hellisøy lighthouse which was voted among the best 15 destinations to see in the whole world... Hmm, impressive... but suspicious.. Best 15 in the WORLD? Really? We'll see about that!

So, there we were. Jana, Tereza, Sara Louise and me loaded in the car early morning driving full of expectations. Should be approximately 90km from Bergen on narrow roads crossing many small islands +/- 2 hours of driving.

And what a road it was! Beautiful! Having the morning sun behind us, the scenery was indeed breathtaking. We didn't know where to look first. Especially, after we passed Knarvik into the Radøy area and all the way towards Sævrøy. Though, pretty much ignored by the girls...

In Sævrøy we boarded ferry to Fedje. The sea was a bit wavy, luckily, it took only around half an hour... Leaving the ferry behind, after 15 minutes of driving on the narrow roads we arrived to Hellisøy. Took a deep breath and went out to see how one of the top 15 destinations in the world looks like. Tereza and Sara Louise pretty much ignored it. Even though they spent almost 2 minutes observing it, the stones, fences, bones and I don't know what else were much more interesting. To us adults :) , I admit, I was not disappointed. It really is beautiful. The weather was fantastic and the sea deep blue. Like in a fairy tale.

After a short trip around, climbing fences, crossing creeks and climbing boulders to get the BEST PICTURE, we went back. We drove back to Bergen through Lindås just to avoid taking the same road. It was nice, but the morning drive was better. It went fast and at 16.30, we were already walking through Bryggen. Girls were hungry and because they were very good all the day, we went for a dinner. They were happy and tired. We came home exactly 12 hours after we left. What a long day...

So, was it worth it? Is it really one of the best 15 places in the world to see? Honestly, it is worth it. Fedje with Hellisøy really is special. Simply beautiful. And top 15? Well, I am beginning to write a list of places I like best. The day I am finished, I'll let you know!.. :) Til then, go and see yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed...
